MYO-WA-EN – Garden of Inspiration & Harmony On Monday, November7, we will kick off 2011 fall season with an 11:30am luncheon and 1:30pm tour of Boonie Lang’s private Japanese Garden. We will discover Myo-Wa-En—a secret garden, never open to the public, but only to garden connoisseurs wanting to explore the hidden beauty of a classic Japanese garden. Prior to the tour, we will meet for lunch at the Akebono Japanese Restaurant. MYO-WA-EN – Garden of Inspiration & Harmony was designed by Sensei Katsuo Saito. To visit this classic Japanese garden is: § To experience its lingering serenity and ever changing quiet beauty. § To understand the mastery of artistic expression. § To feel the vitality and harmony of plants and trees of Japan. § To appreciate some of Japan’s cultural history as it gardens evolved. § To savor its spiritual message of peace and unity which began in the hearts of 100 craftsmen who created the garden and teahouse.
Our Lavender & Roses Bus Tour was a huge success. Thanks to all how participated! Other TOURS Fun and educational tours to private, commercial and botanical gardens and other interesting points of interest are offered. We regularly go on field trips and recently visited the beautiful private gardens of Del and Diana Stuck of Sheldon. We were treated to a guided tour, enjoyable potluck brunch, and socializing with club members. Our first annual bus tour was April 2010 to the famous Filoli Gardens in Woodside. We were treated to coffee and donuts on our stop in Pleasanton at a park known for its award winning design. Many members enjoyed the Cafe at Filoli for lunch and all enjoyed their tours of the grounds and mansion. In September, we toured a local native plant nursery operation at Cornflower Farms on Sheldon Road in Elk Grove, California. We learned about propagation techniques, stratification of seed, rooting cuttings of plants and about the care of native plants and water needs of native plants. Thank you to Joel and Karen French, all who volunteered, generously donated to and attended our "Home for the Holidays" Event December 11, 2010!!! You all helped make this the best event yet! |
